Professional actors from the National Theatre for Children (NTC) visited the Lodi Elementary School Friday, May 4 to perform “The Treasure Trove of Conservation Cove,” an educational play about energy conservation. Teachers also received digital games and activities to reinforce important concepts and lessons taught during the 25-minute play. All program costs were covered by a sponsorship from Lodi Utilities and WPPI Energy, making this a cost-free resource for the Lodi School District.
The pirate-themed play followed the adventures of Captain Doorknob who, while on the hunt for the treasure of Conservation Cove, discovers the evil Pirate Pie-rat is wasting the cove’s resources. With the help of student volunteers and a zany cast of characters, Captain Doorknob learns ways to save natural resources and stop Pirate Pie-rat.
Lodi Elementary School teachers shared the following feedback:
“It was a great show. The performers did an excellent job communicating the message. The Lodi kids did a great job remembering their manners for a performance.” - Beth Sokol, 2nd Grade Teacher
“I have seen many of these energy shows and this was the best one yet! The actors were amazing and I heard my kids talking on the way back to our room and creating moves to go with the phrases they learned. A couple of kids were even inspired to write a play about energy when they had free time. Well worth our time!” - Deb Volk, 2nd Grade Teacher
“The actresses did a great job keeping the students attention.” - Sandi Murray, 1st Grade Teacher
“I love the actors’ enthusiasm and humor. My students really enjoyed the program and the information will help them be better earth conservationists.” - Cheryl Tracy, 1st Grade Teacher
